Graeme is a manager and works for a mining company. He reckons that breath-work and meditation have given him more space around his thoughts and decision making.

Kath is an Executive Director at the University of Wollongong. She did the course to further her connection to yoga for life balance, slowing down and thinking more deeply about life.

Laura has a PhD and made the transition from researcher to full-time yoga teacher at local studios (including Younga Yoga). She did this training whilst pregnant with her first baby.

Emma is a nurse and mum. She is also the creator of Ghetto Mummas, a place women can connect, move and breathe to nurture their health during pregnancy + beyond.

BASED ON
15 YEARS EXPERIENCE
AS STUDIO OWNERS

In 2006, we started Wollongong's first yoga studio and the beginnings of what is now a thriving yoga community in the Illawarra. Our mission is to help others live a happier, healthier more balanced life - to feel inspired and to use your knowledge to help others.

We share our insights from the past 15 years as studio owners (including getting through a global pandemic without missing a day of classes) and what it takes to continue to show up for yourself on and off the mat - even when life feels challenging. This is the yoga practice.

Prior to Covid - we had run numerous international yoga retreats in Bali & Japan, and many local retreats.

Russ has a thriving Exercise Physiology practice and sees clients privately and through his involvement at South Coast Private Hospital for a range of physical and mental issues using yoga as a modality to reduce stress, promote healing and overcome injury and addiction.

Deb has built an online yoga program for pregnancy called Stretch & Glow and has a range of unique insights - not only in the physical practice of yoga - but what it takes to share those offerings with the world in a variety of formats from regular classes, retreats & more developed programs.

We have two gorgeous kids and put the theory of yoga to the test to live a balanced family life, as partners, parents & employers.

With our expertise in Yoga, Exercise Physiology, Anatomy, Prenatal Yoga + consistent personal practice - this is a teacher training program grounded in many years of continued effort & experience and something we are thrilled to share with you.

AN

INTEGRATED

SYLLABUS

KEY LEARNING AREAS

The following curriculum is set by Yoga Alliance to meet 200hr Yoga Teacher Training standards. As lifelong students ourselves, we’ve taken tons of different types of training, so we worked hard to create an integrated approach. Rather than present these areas separately, you’ll learn how these different aspects of the yoga practice relate to each other. Each day you will be led through a morning yoga & meditation practice, then after breakfast, you will learn the how and why of that morning’s content. We are super proud of our syllabus.

Out of the hundreds of schools I’ve worked with, you have been one the best schools, by far. I didn’t know it was possible for a school to get verified in under 24 hours so I can absolutely vouch for your work ethic and professionalism.

~ Credentialing Specialist, Yoga Alliance

ANATOMY + PHYSIOLOGY

  • Learn from one of Australia’s leaders in the application of functional anatomy & how it pertains to the practice of yoga.

  • Russ has spent the 20+ years as a guest tutor and lecturer for the University of Wollongong Graduate School of Medicine & Faculty of Biomedical Science.

  • Forget boring lecture-style delivery and look forward to a highly engaging, hands-on, practical application of Anatomy & Physiology for a sustainable yoga practice.

17.png

MEDITATION + PRANAYAMA

  • Meditation and pranayama are the traditional practices of yoga that form the basis for introspection and observation. These practices require consistent effort over a long period of time - something which is much easier to cultivate with an experienced teacher.

  • Each day starts with a 30min meditation and pranayama practice designed to help you check in with your ‘self’ and get clear for the day.

  • You will learn the science behind different techniques to reduce stress and move through your day from a place of conscious action instead of reaction.

16.png

YOGA ASANA PRACTICE & THEORY

  • After morning meditation, you’ll work with a daily 90min yoga practice taught by Deb or Russ (or guest faculty) focussing on a key physical or energetic theme of the day.

  • In the afternoon - you will learn key alignment principles, sequencing, and functional concepts that relate to the morning practice.

  • You’ll learn how to modify postures for beginners and those with injuries, how to use props & create a safe and sustainable yoga practice.

18.png

YOGA PHILOSOPHY

  • The history of yoga spans back some thousands of years. As a living, evolving practice, we will look at yoga throughout history, the different schools of yoga, and how modern postural yoga fits into the timeline.

  • You will also learn from ancient yogic texts and how these texts can help form a basis for inspired, ethical living in our modern world.

  • You will discover some of the key differences between various traditions and how to make meaning of these sometimes contradictory teachings. This aspect also covers how to invite devotional aspects into your yoga practice.

21.png

TEACHING METHODOLOGY + PRACTICE TEACHING

  • One of the most powerful parts of this program is gaining a deeper understanding of your own experience of yoga and making the transition from student to become your own teacher.

  • Whether your goal is to become a yoga teacher or simply deepen your own practice, this module will help you understand the reasons behind sequencing approaches, different learning & communication styles, and how to share your knowledge of yoga with others skillfully.

  • You will learn how to cue common yoga postures, how to give basic hands-on assists (with permission), and work in groups to deliver a yoga practice with a theme.

19.png

BUSINESS + TECH TOOLS FOR YOGA

  • With 15 years of experience running a yoga studio & 12 months of teaching yoga on zoom, we will share our top tips on the necessary skills to thrive as a yoga teacher in a variety of settings such as private practice, gyms, yoga studios, retreats and online.

  • To succeed as a yoga teacher, you not only need to be a good practitioner, but you also need to harness great communication and planning skills, to be able to manage your finances and get clear on how to share your gifts with the world.

  • We’ll get you started on the process and share our top resources for further study.

21.png

YOGA FOR BEGINNERS, PREGNANCY, PTSD + SPECIAL POPULATIONS

  • As an Accredited Exercise Physiologist & Prenatal Yoga Specialist, you are in highly experienced hands when it comes to learning how to modify the yoga practice for beginners, pregnancy, students with anxiety, and those with injuries.

  • We’ll get you started with the basics on how to create a safe practice space for different types of yogis in your class and know when to refer students to other professionals in your network.

  • You will learn key ways to include props for a more accessible practice.

Live Inspired.png

FIND YOUR PURPOSE & LIVE INSPIRED [AN ADDED BONUS]

  • No one deserves to feel stuck in life. We believe the impact of this training extends far further than the yoga mat or the career path of a teacher. It’s rare as an adult that you get the opportunity to engage in a process that results in immense personal growth and the creation of life-long friends.

  • Our planet desperately needs people that are living more consciously, people that are able to speak out on behalf of those without a voice, and people that are able to lead by example of kindness and compassion.

  • If you’ve been feeling called to make a change in your yoga practice, your career, or just the way that you show up in life - then get prepared for a course that is deeply engaging and will lead you to live inspired.

DEB YOUNG

Life is too short

to feel stuck

and uninspired

When I was 6, my dad committed suicide (he was a Vietnam Veteran). So from an early age, I had a sense that life is fleeting and we need to make the most of it. I put myself through uni, graduated with a job I hated, so (naturally) I escaped overseas for two and a half years to work and travel through Japan, Thailand, Nepal & India.

Soon after - I started practicing yoga. I felt an instant connection to the physical practice but was hooked by the glimpses of stillness and calm that yoga provided.

My chronic asthma improved and I was able to manage the ups and downs of depression.

Younga Yoga was born from the idea that we wanted to create a space where people could balance the mind and body and connect with others in the community.

Our philosophy is that effective self-care happens when you are supported by and part of a strong community.

This training will help you embrace your flaws, find your strengths + ask that you act with boundaries, ethics + continuous improvement for the service of others - skills you can apply to your own life, in teaching others, or as part of your job.

With us as a team, you'll get the perfect blend of light-hearted humor, persistent practice, anatomical intelligence, business basics & a step-by-step approach for confident teaching with clarity and insight to creating a life of purpose.

We'll dive deep into Anatomy, physiology + the beginnings of leading a simple sequence informed by the breath.

Accommodation is twin or triple share in clean bush cabins.

You will make your own way to the retreat space which is about 2.5hrs drive south of Wollongong, and we are happy to help you meet other trainees if you wish to car-pool.
